A Night in Nepantla

Nepantla is often used in the writings of Gloria Anzaldua, in her book, “The Borderlands.” It is a Nahuatl word which translates to the “in-between” or “in the middle.” A term used to describe the navigation of multiple, often conflicting, cultural, and identity borders. A metaphor for the lived experiences of people who exist at the intersections of multiple cultural, ethnic, and social identities.

As part of the mythology of “Nepantla” … the JAGUAR is the animal that has the ability to travel between worlds, to Nepantla and back.

As a band, we deeply resonate with the land of ‘Nepantla’ and feel that we live in the middle of multiple worlds, sounds and identities … and this album invites others to sonically join us in our joy, grief, struggle and liberation in Nepantla.

Released: May 24, 2024
